Overview

Unemployment rate is one of the main characteristics that describes the economy of a country or a region. In general, it is almost always true that the higher the unemployment rate, the worse the economy situation is.

Russia is a huge country, consisting of 83 federal subjects - regions and each region has its own history, people, government, resources and economy. As they are so different, so is the unemployment rate.

Current Unemployment Data

Unemployment Rate in Jan 2014 was 5.60%, the change is 0.02% compared to Dec 2013 (5.58%), and -0.35% compared to Jan 2013 (5.95%).

The number of people in Labor Force in Jan 2014 was 74,627,000. The change is -471,000 (-0.63%) compared to Dec 2013 (75,098,000) and -581,000 (-0.77%) compared to Jan 2013 (75,208,000).

Out of those in labor force, 70,447,000 were employed. That is -461,000 (-0.65%) change compared to Dec 2013, when 70,908,000 people were employed and -284,000 (-0.40%) compared to Jan 2013 when 70,731,000 had jobs.

At the same time the number of unemployed people in Jan 2014 was 4,180,000. The change is -10,000 (-0.24%) compared to Dec 2013 (4,190,000) and -297,000 (-6.63%) compared to Jan 2013 (4,477,000).
